INTERFAITH PRAYER SERVICE

Walls Unit, Huntsville, Texas

October 16, 2010

On October 16 at 2pm, there will be an Interfaith Prayer Service in front of the Walls Unit in Huntsville where executions take place.   We will pray for the victims of crime, prisoners, prison staff, politicians and officials, and for an end to capital punishment.  Members of the "Journey of Hope...From Violence to Healing" will join us.    Following the prayer service, we will adjourn to St. Thomas Catholic Church in Huntsville for a meal and discussion of strategy to end the death penalty in Texas.   The Walls Unit is located at 815 12th Street in Huntsville.

For those who are interested and can do it,  we will caravan to Huntsville from the Dominican Sisters, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, on Saturday morning. The caravan will leave at 9am and go first to Death Row in Livingston.  Then,  we will travel to the Walls Unit in Huntsville.  The road from Livingston to Huntsville is the last trip for someone who is being executed.   People who do not want to caravan can go directly to the Walls Unit in Huntsville for the 2pm service.

There is no cost except we are asking people to donate to the cost of the meal at the church.

There are plenty of accomodations in Huntsville for people who want to spend the night there and travel home the next day.

Please call Dave Atwood at (832)693-5710 if you plan to participate or want more information.

This program is sponsored by Pax Christi Texas and the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
