Steering Committee – We Need your Help!
We are seeking nominations for new members
of the Steering Committee of the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative.
Do you know of someone we should consider? If so, we need to hear from you.
Here’s What We’re Looking For
As a long term goal, we want to broaden the
Steering Committee’s composition so it better reflects the diversity of the
Marianist Family of North America in gender, age, culture (including racial
and ethnic diversity), socio-economic level, geography and the variety of
ministry settings in which Marianists are engaged. We can’t achieve this
all at once, so we are focusing on adding two young adults (age 20-40)
to the Steering Committee in January 2009. We hope that at least one of them
would have some connection to a Marianist high school and that one would be
a resident of the Pacific Rim area.
Qualities and Skills We are Looking for in Steering Committee
Members
- A healthy grasp of and commitment to the Marianist
charism.
- A strong, active and mature participation in social
justice, if possible including active participation in one of the MSJC teams,
projects or committees.
- A commitment to participate in the conference calls
(normally scheduled on the first Thursday evening of every other month),
annual meeting (the second or third weekend in January) and other activities
of the Steering Committee, including task forces and ad hoc committees set
up to accomplish specific tasks.
- Good communication skills including an ability to
communicate through the Internet.
- Personal qualities conducive to teamwork: idea-sharing,
active listening, willingness to take initiative, commitment to follow through
and a sense of humor.
- A commitment to be patient and persevere in social
justice work even as things get difficult or take a lot longer than expected.
- Some experience in working with low income, marginalized
or minority groups.
While no person may have all of these qualities
and skills, the list gives a sense of the kind of person we are looking for.
