Title:
Assistant to the Director/MSJC
FLSA: Nonexempt
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Assistant to the Director of the Marianist
Social Justice Collaborative (hereafter called
MSJC) is responsible for providing
administrative, organizational and clerical
support and related services to the MSJC
Director. MSJC is
an outreach ministry of the Marianist Family
Council that promotes education and action for
social justice within the Marianist Family.

The Assistant works on a variety of projects and
programs in order to assist the Director and
MSJC Steering Committee in completing their
work.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities
(may
perform some or all of the following)
1.
Prepare Justice Jottings, the monthly
e-newsletter.
2.
Coordinate the MSJC website.
3.
Maintain the MSJC database.
4.
Provide support to the MSJC issue teams,
project teams, and committees.
5.
Assist with grant writing.
6.
Coordinate mailings.
7.
Assist in maintaining listservs and updated
email address lists.
8.
Act as recording secretary for the MSJC
Steering Committee.
9.
Coordinate special projects for the director.
10.
Assist in preparing promotional literature
and displays.
11.
Assist in arranging meetings, workshops, and
other gatherings.
12.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Knowledge of and experience in social justice
work, preferably within a Catholic and Marianist
context.
2. Ability to work as part of a team.
3. Ability to take initiative (self-starter) and
to work independently.
4. Involvement in or familiarity with the
Marianist Family preferred.
5. Knowledge of or willingness to learn database
management and computer programs. We use Microsoft
Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher), Access,
Frontpage, and Macromedia Fireworks.
6. Ability to establish and rearrange priorities
and multiple tasks.
7. Proficiency in using computers and other office
equipment.
8. Good oral and written communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a part-time position (13-15 hours per week).
Work is during normal business hours, but with some
flexibility in the exact days and hours. May
include some evening and weekend work and possibly
out of town travel. The Assistant works at the MSJC
office in Covington KY, but some of the work can be
done at the Assistant’s home.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Assistant is directly accountable to the
Director of MSJC.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is generally in an indoor office setting. Must
be able to handle, lift objects and or materials of
up to 20 pounds. Must be able to communicate
effectively on the telephone and use a computer.
REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS
Lifting up to twenty
pounds is essential for this position. Lifting
weights above twenty pounds may be accommodated by
seeking help from another co‑worker. Remainder of
the physical demands listed above are essential to
this position for which no reasonable accommodation
can be made.
