The Marianist Social Justice Collaborative (MSJC) Steering
Committee met for their annual meeting in St. Louis on Jan.
17-20. The committee spent the bulk of the time developing
goals for the next 4-5 years. They also invited other Marianist
Family members from
St. Louis
to an evening of sharing about social justice efforts in the
area, socializing, and a Eucharist celebrating the call to
justice within our Marianist Charism. Highlights of the meeting
included:
Refocusing our
environmental justice concern in light of the new strategic plan
of the Marianist Environmental Education Center ;

Strengthening our fund raising capacity as one of our main
goals;
·
Taking steps
to broaden the scope of the Sweatshop Labor Team to Global
Economic Justice and the Anti-Racism Team to include immigration
issues;
·
Moving
forward with our “Think Globally, Act Locally” program;
·
Adding a
formal representative from the Adele Social Justice Project to
the Steering Committee;
·
Supporting
the new program for Marianist communities, “ A Place at the
Marianist Table”, developed by the team working on justice
issues related to gays and lesbians.
