"Sadly, the hurricane made clear, that the U.S. has not resolved fundamental domestic disparities and inadequacies. Katrina did not create these inequities; it simply added an important reminder that they are deeply embedded and constitutive of American political, economic, and social life."

Anti-Racism Issue Team Update
The team has been busy this summer making presentations to teachers of Marianist Schools, sending letters to lay and religious Marianist communities about the Pledge to Eliminate Racism, and working on their action plan. United to End Racism
United to End Racism (UER) is a group of people dedicated to eliminating racism in the world. The main work of UER is to illuminate the damage done to individuals by racism and to undo this damage on an individual basis, using the resources and process of Re-evaluation Counseling. Alberto Gonzales and the Death Penalty
Referring to new rules established by last year's USA PATRIOT Act revisions, the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty says, "It is difficult to see how this ...will not result in the execution of innocent defendants." Holiday Cards by Death Row Inmate
Sr. Camille D'Arienzo, has been the godmother and spiritual companion to David Paul Hammer, a man on death row in federal prison. For the past several years, the two of them have put their creative talents together to produce Christmas cards: Camille writes the inside verse and David paints the image on the front. 100% of the proceeds from this project, called Death Row Cards, go to agencies that serve children at risk.
