March 5-7, 2010 in Baltimore

 MSJC is planning a "Seamless Garment Dialogue" weekend to promote dialogue among Catholics concerned with social justice, including those involved in issues such as abortion and euthanasia as well as those involved in issues such as war, poverty and the death penalty. The goal is to lessen divisions and foster better understanding and collaboration. Featured resource person will be Fr. John Langan SJ, the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Professor of Social Thought at Georgetown U. and an expert on Christian ethics.  To see the flyer, click here.

Help Raise the Minimum Wage to 35¢ an Hour!
Hard to believe, but the minimum wage for garment workers in Bangladesh is about 12¢ per hour.  Support the workers in their quest for a 35¢ an hour wage.  Click here to sign a letter to the National Retail Federation, the world's largest retail trade association.

Light a Candle for Abolition
In 2002 the Community of Sant'Egidio began the World Day of Cities for Life/Cities Against the Death Penalty initiative to mobilize the worldwide abolition of the death penalty.  On November 30 participants are asked to light a candle - or to illuminate a significant public monument - in a show of support. Read more - and learn whether your city has signed up.

The Price of Death
"It is time for the nation to conclude once and for all that in our civilized society there is no place for capital punishment."  Thus ends a recent editorial in the national Catholic weekly America. The editorial makes a compelling case.

Adele Social Justice Project Core Team Meeting - Reflections by Lisa McCracken

Lisa"Our annual meeting held this past weekend in Dayton is the only time the whole ASJP Core Team is in one place.  We celebrated the past year and planned next steps: new members of the team, new immersions, the Continental Assembly, collaborating with other branches of the Marianist Family and fiscal responsibility.  People I spend all year working with as only voices on a conference call are finally within reach of sharing a hug, a smile and that true Marianist common denominator - food!  (Amy Elliott's amazing chili recipe to follow next month.)  The now annual Saturday night social/information evening at the Marianist sisters' house, attended this year by 15 other Dayton young adults, has become a highlight of the weekend and my year.  It is hard to believe that this is my 3rd annual meeting!  I have had the opportunity to meet and work with so many wonderful people through ASJP and MSJC that I never would have met otherwise.

AdventA Thought to Ponder

 Advent Prayer

Like foolish folk of old I would not be,
Who had no room that night for Him and thee.

See, Mother Mary, here within my heart
I've made a little shrine for Him apart;

Swept it of sin, and cleansed it with all care;

Warmed it with love and scented it with prayer.

So, Mother, when the Christmas anthems start,
Please let me hold your baby--in my heart.
