Anti-Racism

Death Penalty

Lethal Injections - Federal courts have recently delayed hearings in two separate cases involving lethal injections. In April, Human Rights Watch issued a report calling on states to suspend the practice pending intensive review. Read more, and download the report, "So Long As They Die”.

STARVIN' FOR JUSTICE 2006, the 13th Annual Fast and Vigil to Abolish the Death Penalty, will take place at the US Supreme Court June 29 -- July 2, 2006. MSJC is a co-sponsor. Click here for more info.

Sweatshop Labor

There’s progress on the new worker-owned garment factory in Bangladesh. Local leaders there, including Fr. Bill Christensen, are putting together the start-up funding package of grants and loans. They are also hoping to get a firm commitment from a US company for their clothing. Tentative starting date – January of 2007.

War and Peace

Team chair Sr. Laola Hironaka will be taking 10 college students and young adults from Texas and California to Washington DC on May 15-19 to do lobbying on immigration reform, the crisis in Darfur, and human trafficking.

MSJC Steering Committee Update

Sr. Grace Walle, Steering Committee member and chair of the Death Penalty Issue Team, will be awarded the 2006 San Antonio Young Lawyers Liberty Bell Award for a non-lawyer who promotes a respect for the law, courts and justice.
