The Weekend So Nice They Asked For It Twice!
Adele's spirit is moving! Word of the recent June weekend reached a campus minister with Baldwin Wallace's Newman Center who contacted ASJP eager to hear more about how it went and how a similar experience could be created for the students at the school. They had been looking for a way to create a teaching/learning component on social justice in the Church and were very excited about what ASJP and MSJC could offer. May all our efforts be so multiplied!
Here's what Greg Calhoun had to say about his experience in Cleveland:
"It was a Sunday in mid-June, and the day after my Jesuit Volunteer placement's annual 5k run/walk. I was already filled with enthusiasm and grace after seeing so many in Cleveland give their time to support the Catholic agency I had come to love. The weekend only got better as I was able to break bread and share the beauty of mass in Spanish with the participants of the Adele Social Justice Project's Cleveland immersion retreat.
"It was a blessing to meet more young people in the Midwest who believe in the power of community and who want to toil in the Kingdom for a more just world. I also got to see Rick and Lori, who are co-Summons with me, and I have to say that there are few blessings in the world that can compete with a Marianist hug. Adele, one of the Marianist co-founders, was a prolific letter-writer, and one of her letters that we discussed talked about the joy of seeing young people "promise fidelity." It was a joy for me to see the same profession of faith nearly two centuries after that letter was written, and I pray that the retreat bolsters the Marianist spirit in Cleveland. The spirit builds community. And from community, justice flows like a river."
