Indianapolis Immersion Weekend

The ASJP Urban Immersion weekend Sept 17, 2010 brings together local young adults and provides an environment in which people of faith can share and learn from one another about ways to make a difference in their community, while reflecting through the lens of the Marianist charism. We hope that many of the weekend participants will be interested in joining with an ongoing community after the immersion.

Weekend Highlights:

  • Saturday service projects:

-Learn about environmental sustainability and bringing fresh produce to the city and join in the harvest with Urban Mountain Farms

-Serve and share a meal with downtown Indy residents at the Cathedral Soup Kitchen
-Help set-up a "Fiesta" celebration with La Plaza, a non-profit that serves the Latino community

  • Hear firsthand accounts about local social justice issues in Indy from several guest speakers

  • Prepare and share meals together based on locally grown ingredients

  • Participate in interactive presentations/discussions on social justice themes such as “Joining Voices with the Voiceless,” “Passion for the Mission,” and “Building Community for the Common Good”
